MRF AT THE 3WALLBALL WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS HOSTS FIRST EVER VETERANS WHEELCHAIR DIVISION

October 3, 2015

03 OCT 15, Las Vegas, NV: MRF made history last week in Las Vegas at the 3 Wallball Championships hosting a wheelchair division featuring 10 veterans from the Racquetball Rehabilitation Clinic program. In addition to the great draw, ESPN also shot highlight footage & interviews to include in the telecast.

Special thanks to Mike Coulter - 3WallBall and the crew of ESPN and Dave Vincent to making this event possible to where viewers where able to watch this special event - streaming live.

3WallBall has supported the Military Racquetball Federation (MRF) for the past years by allowing us to participate in the National Championships hosted every September. This year 3WallBall graciously allowed the MRF to bring ten wheelchair veterans to the event to compete in a special division, called “Up/Down” Doubles. Meaning, a wheelchair player was partnered with an able-bodied player to compete against another like teams. The outdoor wheelchair has never been done before, and with the idea conceived in Va. Beach during WARRIOR WEEK, MRF with the partnership of CAF – Challenged Athletes Foundation, this event was possible.

The MRF portion of the event kicked off with the Pro Am Charity Doubles Wednesday evening, all to benefit the Racquetball Rehabilitation Clinics. Hats off to Rhonda Rajsich, Michelle Key, Janelle Tisinger, and Daniel DeLaRosa who teamed up with David Grolman, Geoff Holmes, Steven Harper, and Bree Paganetto. Wheelchair Veterans from CO, NJ, NV, OR, PA, and TX and their partners played round robin matches Thursday and Friday. Many amateurs and pros alike stopped to watch these amazing players. Seeing these guys move around the court is an inspiration to everyone and a testament to what the MRF is doing. Saturday evening featured the final MRF portion of the event with the Nellis Color Guard, Susie Trumps on the trumpet, the vets, and all first responders and active and retired military and a few closing words from Steven Harper, MRF Co-Founder. ESPN3 was onsite to capture the some of the wheelchair play, interview our players, and broadcast the ceremony.
